The fact that most of the people in this cricket frenzy country remains oblivious of the fact that there is a T20I World Cup for blind cricketers is in progress comes to a surprise. This is the second edition of T20I World Cup taking place. The first edition which was also held in India in 2012 was won by India when they beat Pakistan by 29 runs in Bangaluru.

Looking at the record India is billed as favorites and India did their reputation no harm with an emphatic 129 run win against Bangladesh in their first league match followed by a mammoth 142 run win against West Indies Their 7 wickets loss against Pakistan did put some brakes on but the host have gained winning momentum once again with 10 wicket win against England in their last match.

Former India Captain Rahul Dravid is the ambassador for tournament hosted by Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), the cricketing arm of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled.

Replying to a query, Dravid said blind cricket was not as popular when it started due to lack of awareness and opportunity, but has grown in the last four years. “Blind cricket, to begin with, was small, not huge. May be it was lack of awareness and opportunity, but over the last three to four years even the blind cricket has grown a lot and is going in right direction,” he said.

Lets hope that there will be more awareness about cricket for blind in India and all over the world. Lets not turn a blind eye on these incredible players.

The World Cup has started from January 31. The final will be played on February 12 at M.Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru.
