Manchester City: Road to success

Pep Guardiola signed a 3 year contract with Manchester City on July 1.2016. The club has a really good record from the past 6 years, including two league titles, one league cup and one FA cup trophy, Pep would surely be a good choice for City. His record as a manager is nothing short of incredible. 20 trophies in 6 years including two Champions league titles is some record. He could possibly lead City to glory in the European Competitions as well unlike any other manager has done with City so far.

City started the season very convincingly with 10 consecutive wins and was sharing the top of the table  spot with Chelsea for a while, before a really bad run of form with draws and losses saw Manchester City slip to fifth position in the table and is already 10 points behind Chelsea who are leading the Premier League by a nine point margin to Spurs and Arsenal. City is still in the run for the Champions league title facing Monaco in the knockout round later this month.

The question is, will City`s squad who have won so much, still have the motivation and willpower to fight for another league title?

Another interesting facet of the team is the average age of their squad. Despite the new signings of young players including 19 year-old Gabriel Jesus and 21 year-old Leroy Sanè Man.City`s squad consist of players with an average age of 27.9 years(4th highest in Premier league) which might force  City let go of some of their most trusted old players in a season or two. Hopefully the new youngsters  would have been well introduced to the team by then and ready to take over the command. Pep Guardiola has a lot of challenges ahead and looking at the huge reputation that Pep has, City might well be in the safe hands.
