Just 3 days after England Test captain Alastair Cook relinquished England captaincy, Pakistan batsman Azhar Ali has quit as ODI captain after a string of poor performances. He is believed to have taken the step because the pressure of leading the national side was affecting his batting. The decision comes after Pakistan's 4-1 loss against Australia where Ali managed just 37 runs in the three matches and missed two matches of the series due to a hamstring injury.

Ali succeeded Misbah-ul-Haq retired from ODI cricket following Pakistan’s quarter-final exit in the 2015 World Cup was a surprising choice at the time since he had still not cemented his place in the ODI team when he was chosen to lead the limited overs side.

Off 31 one day internationals that Pakistan played under Ali, the team registered 12 wins and 18 losses while one match was washed out.

Ali who is facing a one match ban for slow over rate against Australia  also clarified on twitter that he has relinquished the role of vice-captain of Test team.

Wicket-keeper batsman and T20I team captain Sarfraz Ahmed will take over the ODI captaincy.

That's good for him and his image, and ultimately, after the trashing we took from Australia, it's good for us.
